Kevin Strauss started it in 2006 as a carpentry and building business, and it has stayed the size it is on purpose: small enough that the person who prices your roof is on site while it is being done.

Local Roofer Versus Storm-Chaser: Why It Matters More In This Trade

Roofing has a structural honesty problem. After a big hail storm, crews arrive from several states away, sign as many roofs as they can in two weeks, subcontract the labor and move on to the next weather event. Much of that work is fine. The issue is that a roof is a twenty-year product sold by somebody who will not be reachable in two — and a workmanship warranty is worth exactly the years the company is still there to honor it.

We are not better roofers because we live here. We are just still here, on Main Street, which is the only thing that makes a warranty mean anything. Wisconsin has noticed the same problem: Wis. Stat. § 100.65 exists because of the crews at the door after a storm, and nine questions to ask them are on the blog.

We inspect before we quote

On the roof, every slope, photographed. A price given from the driveway is a guess with a number attached. The inspection is free and the report is yours.

The price is the price

Written, itemized and fixed unless you ask for a change. Where a surprise is possible — decking, mostly — you get the per-sheet cost up front, as ATCP 110.05 requires of a Wisconsin home improvement contract.

We tell you when to do nothing

A good share of the roofs we look at need nothing yet. Saying so in writing is why people call us again, and the state’s rule against misrepresenting a roof as defective is the legal version of the same promise.

Our own crew

We clean up daily

We hold Wisconsin Dwelling Contractor Certification, general liability coverage and workers’ compensation for every person who sets foot on your property. All of it goes in writing with your estimate, and the certification is checkable by anyone at the DSPS license lookup — ours included, and we would rather you did. Any licensed roofing contractor in Wisconsin can be checked the same way; any roofer who will not give you theirs is telling you something.

We are a certified Owens Corning contractor, which means the manufacturer has vetted our installation work and we can offer their extended material warranties. We are accredited with the Better Business Bureau — the profile is linked so you can read it there rather than take our word for it — and our work carries a 5-year workmanship warranty on top of the manufacturer’s warranty on the materials. Three Things Wisconsin Law Says A Roofer May Not Do

Waive your deductible

Wis. Stat. § 100.65(2) bans the offer outright, with a forfeiture of $500 to $1,000 per violation. Your deductible goes on the contract as your payment. Why.

Negotiate your claim

§ 100.65(8) forbids a contractor to represent you or negotiate with your insurer. We inspect, document, estimate and meet the adjuster; the claim is yours. How that works.

Sell you a roof on the doorstep

An inspection needs no signature. If we come to you, our contract carries the three-day cancellation notice Wis. Stat. § 423.203 requires, and we would rather you slept on it anyway.
