After The Storm

Storm Damage Roof Repair In Watertown: What To Do First

Storm damage roof repair in Watertown runs in order: stop the water, document every slope, then file with your insurer with photographs and an estimate in hand. We inspect free, tarp the same day where water is coming in, meet your adjuster on the roof, and repair once the scope is agreed.

The order matters more than speed. A claim filed before anyone has looked at the roof is a claim you are guessing at, and the first forty-eight hours sets out the sequence step by step.

If there is water in the house, call us and we will tarp it. Emergency mitigation does not prejudice a claim — insurers expect you to prevent further damage, and most policies require it. If the storm was the April 13–17, 2026 outbreak that put 2.75-inch hail on Watertown, the claim window is open until April 2027 and the record of exactly what fell where is public.

What Kind Of Storm Damage

Hail

Bruises the mat under the granules. Nothing leaks for years, then the roof fails early. The ground-level tells and what an inspection finds.

Hail damage

Wind

Creased, lifted and missing shingles, lost ridge cap, torn flashing. Visible from the ground, and just as claimable.

Wind damage

Emergency tarping: water coming in now

Tarped today, photographed first so the claim has a record. What to do before we get there.

The Process

How A Storm Claim Goes

Inspection

We walk the roof, photograph every slope, and measure. You get the photographs whether or not you file, and whether or not you hire us.

An honest answer

If there is no damage worth claiming we say so. Filing a claim that gets denied costs you nothing but goes on your record with the insurer.

You file

You call your insurer — it has to be you, not us. Wis. Stat. § 100.65(8) forbids a roofer to negotiate a claim for you. We give you the documentation to file with.

The adjuster visit

We meet them at your house and walk the roof with them, so the estimate reflects what is actually damaged. What happens up there.

The scope gets agreed

Adjusters miss things, and supplements are normal. We photograph the item and cite the code section behind it — the valley metal or cricket SPS 321.28(7) requires, for instance — and the insurer reviews it on paper.

The work

Scheduled once the scope is settled. You pay your deductible; the insurer pays the rest per your policy, and Wis. Stat. § 628.46 makes an agreed payment overdue after thirty days.

Storm Chasers

Why It Matters Which Roofer Inspects It

After a hail event, crews arrive in Watertown from several states away. They knock every door, sign as many roofs as they can, subcontract the labor, and move on to the next storm. The work is often fine. The problem arrives two years later when a seam opens and the number on the yard sign is disconnected.

We are in Watertown. That is the entire argument, and it is the argument a workmanship warranty depends on.

How To Spot A Storm-Chaser At Your Door: Three Checks

The state license

Look the company up at the Wisconsin DSPS license lookup. A Dwelling Contractor Certification is required to pull a permit on a house in this state, and the record shows how long it has been held.

The cancellation notice

Wisconsin requires every insurance-related roofing contract to carry, in bold, your right to cancel within three business days of a claim denial. A contract without it is a contract from someone who has not read the law that governs them — the denied-claim page quotes the notice.

The deductible

Anyone offering to waive or absorb it is offering something the state bans outright, with a forfeiture of $500 to $1,000 per violation. Why that matters to you, with the statute quoted.

What Has Actually Hit Watertown

Not general claims about Wisconsin weather. This is Watertown’s own record from the National Weather Service, newest first, and each entry opens the full storm. The April 2026 hailstorm is the one most roofs here are still carrying.

Storm Damage Questions

A weather claim is not the same as an at-fault claim, and in Wisconsin storm losses are common enough that they are priced in regionally rather than blamed on you individually. What we can tell you is that leaving real damage unrepaired gives an insurer grounds to deny the next claim on the same roof. Ask your agent how your carrier treats weather claims before you decide — the insurance hub has the questions worth asking.

No. Adjusters see dozens of roofs a week and hail bruising is genuinely easy to miss. You can request a re-inspection, and Wisconsin law expressly allows your contractor to discuss the damage with the adjuster. We have had scopes reversed by walking a roof with the adjuster and pointing at the marks. What reverses a denial covers the steps, including the free complaint route through the state’s insurance commissioner.

Wisconsin gives you twelve months from the date of loss to bring an action on a property policy — Wis. Stat. § 631.83(1)(a), which names hail and windstorm expressly — and your policy sets its own, usually shorter, deadline to report. Check both. Either way, waiting makes it harder to prove which storm did it, and the deadline page explains why the clock runs from the storm rather than from the leak.

No. Not for the inspection, not for the photographs, not for meeting your adjuster, and not for a re-inspection if the first visit went badly. The report is yours whether or not the roof is ever ours to repair, and a dated record of a storm is worth having on file even when there is nothing to claim yet. What the inspection covers.

What Your Neighbors Say

Reviews From Watertown-Area Homeowners

“Hail came through in June and I had no idea whether it was worth calling my insurance. They came out the next morning, walked the roof, and showed me photos of the bruising before I signed anything. The adjuster met them here and the claim went through without a fight.”

Sample Reviewer 1 Google Review · July 2026

“Full tear-off on a house built in 1961, so there were surprises under the old shingles. They called me before doing anything extra and the final invoice matched the estimate. Yard was cleaner when they left than when they showed up.”

Sample Reviewer 2 Google Review · June 2026

“Wind took part of the ridge off and I had water coming into an upstairs bedroom. They tarped it the same evening and came back to do the repair properly the following week. Straight answers the whole way through.”
